NCW Vision
A non-governmental organisation, the National Council of Women of Malta unites both individual members and national organisations. We function freely, without political or religious affiliation, to represent a wide variety of women's viewpoints on issues of public concern.
Our goal is to improve everyone's quality of life, with a particular emphasis on advancing women's equality of opportunity. Our goal is to enable women to participate fully in society at all levels and in all facets of local life.
Whether they come together as individuals or as representatives of related organisations, women from diverse backgrounds and experiences come together on the Council, which is an essential platform. Together, we create policies, share information, trade ideas, and strive for significant change that will improve our society.
NCW History
Through the combined efforts of several inspiring female leaders, the National Council of Women of Malta was established in 1961. These pioneers included Mrs. Adelina Davison, the League of Friends president at the time, and Mrs. Josephine Amato Gauci, the president of the Women's Corona Society at the time.
As Matron of St. Luke's Hospital, Ms. Mary B. Griffin, O.B.E., provided leadership, while Ms. M. Jane Spiteri offered her experience as Vice President General of Malta Catholic Action. Two other important figures in the Council's founding were Baroness Testaferrata Bonici, who was the Catholic Women's League President at the time, and The Noble Bice Testaferrata Moroni Viani.
The foundation for the Council's long-lasting influence on Maltese society was established by their combined commitment and leadership.
Current Council
Meet our Executive Committee, a dedicated team of women elected annually during the AGM. The National Council of Women of Malta is led by this council, which meets monthly to work towards the organization's goals of empowering women, promoting gender equality, and fostering significant social change.
