NCW Malta will be organising Red Flags, Real Talk, a half-day youth conference that will take place on Friday, 16th October 2026, at MCAST in Paola. The conference is specifically designed for young people aged between 15 and 18 and aims to address one of the most important issues affecting youth today: recognising and responding to unhealthy relationships.
Red Flags, Real Talk, led by the National Council of Women, is funded by the Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence through the Together We Empower programme.
This conference’s aim is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to identify the early warning signs of abusive and unhealthy relationships. Topics will include recognising controlling behaviour, threats, coercion, isolation and digital forms of abuse such as online monitoring and digital control. Through interactive sessions and discussions, young people will learn how to distinguish these harmful behaviours from the characteristics of healthy relationships, including respect, trust, boundaries, and consent.
A key objective of the conference is to increase young people’s confidence in taking safe and appropriate action when faced with concerning situations. Participants will gain practical guidance on setting personal boundaries, seeking help for themselves or a friend, and acting as supportive bystanders. The programme will encourage youths to check in with peers, promote help-seeking behaviour, and involve trusted adults when necessary.
Ultimately, Red Flags, Real Talk aims to empower young people to foster safer, healthier relationships and create a culture of support among their peers.
